Services Set For Victim of Gun Wound

PORT LAVACA — Services for Willie Clay Marshall, 63, found dead near his car on Thursday, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. W.B. Sandberg and Lewis Petmecky officiating.
Graveside services by VFW Post 4403 and Masonic Lodge 36 will follow with burial in Colonial Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home chapel.
A call reporting a gunshot victim on state Highway 316 south of the Alamo Beach cutoff road was received at 4:22 p.m. Thursday by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
Called to the scene, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Marlene Paul ruled at 4:50 p.m. that Marshall had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
He was born Oct. 1, 1924, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred James Marshall of Port Lavaca. Marshall opened his Chevrolet dealership in 1941 prior to joining the U.S. Navy to serve during World War II. He served aboard the subtender USS Euralee and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4403. He was a charter member of the Port Lavaca Kiwanis Club and a member of Masonic Lodge 36. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah Marian Hartzog Marshall of Port Lavaca; a son, Charles Cox of Port Lavaca; two daughters, Marian Harrison of Port Lavaca and Shirley Hobizal of Huffman; three brothers, Lamar Marshall, Earl Marshall and Norman Marshall, all of Port Lavaca; three sisters, Rosa M. Askew, Zana Hayes and Dorothy Wehmeyer, all of Port Lavaca; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers, all nephews, will be Mike Marshall, Stanley Marshall, Eddie Marshall, Lanny Marshall, Butch Marshall, Norman Lee Marshall, Jimmy May, Wayne Wehmeyer Jr., Henry Hayes and Steve Askew.
