Letitia "Lettie" "Leah" Holland was born in Indiana according to the Oregon Censes on August 18, 1830 to Washington and Hester (Stephens) Williams. She crossed the plains in 1850 in which there was much hardship along the way, she was 20 years old. The family settled into Oregon City where Washington her father took out land claim where the Wells Fargo bank now sit in that town.
She met and married Francis S Holland on February 19th, 1852. Leah's sister writes back east to family members, "Leah found herself a man, I tell her he is too small for any use what so ever" He must have been too small for farming, but was elected first Recorder for Oregon City in August 1850, just over a year later they were to be married. Leah and Francis Holland had three Children, all boys; Charles b) 1854, Edward b) 1857, and Francis b) 1860.
In 1862 the Holland's moved to The Dalles, Oregon along with most of Leah's Family and Francis's brother. Though Charles is on the 1860 censes the Archives say he passed away in December 1859 in Clackamas County. In 1867 Leah's husband at the age of 44, takes off for San Francisco, his health is not good and they hope the warmer climate might help. Death came to him far from home on February 10, 1867. His body was brought back to The Dalles and buried in the Masonic cemetery. Leah would be just 37 years old.
Leah lives on in The Dalles raising the boys. Her mother and brothers are still living close. The paper shows she rents out rooms and her boys are in town visiting. She throws a party for her mother who is 77 years old at the time. In 1880 she sales her home and moves to Seattle where her sons are living. Oregon archives has Hessy passing away in 1886, I wonder about this date. If her mother was still alive would she be taking off to Seattle?
Leah dies in Seattle on August 2, 1904, two weeks before her 74th birthday. Her son accompanies his mother's body from Seattle back to The Dalles where she is laid to rest beside her husband, Francis, in the Masonic cemetery.
Leah did die in Seattle but for Family history I have put her down as passing away in Oregon. This is where everyone will be looking for her.

There are still many residents of The Dalles who remember Mrs. Letitia Holland, widow of F.S. Holland, who was a prominent resident of this city in the early 60s, and will learn with regret of her death in Seattle yesterday. The news was received in a message sent to her brother, Henry Williams, whose home is at eight mile, and who is in town today making arrangements for the funeral, as the body will reach here tomorrow noon and the funeral take place at Crandall & Borget's undertaking parlors Saturday morning at 10:30, interment being made in Masonic cemetery.
