1850 - GA, Lowndes Co., 53rd div page 412-B & 413 age 15 see my pictures in his folder.

1860 - GA, Berrien Co. census pg. 364 or 34 James Lee. James Lee lived on a farm near Empire Primitive Baptist Church in what was then Berrien Co until about 1874 when he sold out and moved to Lake County, Florida. James lived here until his death. He was engaged in farming and cattle - growing, he also had a large orange grove. He died Feb 20, 1915. His wife preceeded him in death, dying in June 1907. They were buried at Empire Church near Groveland, FL. 1860 pix in folder

1862 - GA, Berrien Co., James Lee served in Co. "E", 54th Georgia Infantry Regiment, a Berrien Co company in the Confederate Army. He enlisted May 6. 1862 and appears on the company roll as James J. Lee. He served through the war and surrendered at Tallahassee, FL May 10. 1865, and was paroled at Thomasville, May 25, 1865. In the same company were his brothers Jesse and John Lee. Note: All of the above children went to Florida with their parents except Cassie Lee Hall who was married at the time and remained in GA, Berrien Co.,Cassie is Tex's direct line.

James and Lavina Lee were given a good farm by his parents John Levi Lee Sr. and Elender Wetherington Lee who had two children. They being Cassie and John Henry Lee and were expecting a third when the War of Northern aggression began.

James Lee and his brother Jesse Lee enlisted in the Confederate Army and were paroled at Thomasville, Georgia. Ellen Lee was born and died without her father ever seeing her. After the war James homesteaded in 1874 in Sumter County, Florida now known as Lake County.

James and Lavina lived in Lake Co., FL until their deaths. James died on February 20, 1915 and Lavina preceded him in death on February 3, 1915. Both are buried at Empire Church Cemetary in FL, where they had been members. All of their children were born on a farm near Empire Primitive Baptist church in what was Berrien County, Georgia except Isaac Lee who was born in Florida. Source: Cyleta Austin.
