Suspect Info: Shot and killed (Filomento Orante)

Deputy Kiv Phillips was shot and killed after responding to the Saloon Moses & Mehan, corner of Fifth and Fremont in Tombstone, after receiving reports that a man was threatening patrons with a gun. The saloon owner had sent a messenger to notify the Sheriff but the messenger encountered Deputy Phillips on his way and told him instead. Deputy Phillips rushed to the Saloon and when he arrived Filomento was was out on the street. Phillips advanced intending to disarm Filomento. As the former approched, the latter stepped backward and stumbled, at that same instant drawing his revolver and firing, the bullet, with deadly accuracy, striking the officer in the right shoulder, and passing through the windpipe, lodging in the vitals. " While falling, Phillips drew his revolver and fired at Filomento hitting him in the right thigh and fatally wounded the suspect, who died days later.

Deputy Phillips was survived by his sister and four brothers.
