He was a Representative to the Massachusetts Legislature 1841,1843, and 1850.

He married Mary "Polly" Claghorn, the daughter of James Claghorn and Asenath Strong Miller Claghorn. Polly was born Mar 9,1797 in Williamsburg,MA and died Sep 1868 in Saginaw,Michigan.

Children: James Miller Lathrop, Thomas Erwin Lathrop, Edwin Lathrop, and Freeman Lathrop.
