Thomas Spurgen Parker was born June 6, 1874 in Angelina County, Texas to Hardy H Parker and Melvo Emily Devall. He married Lula Catherine Hagans January 15, 1899 at Comanche County, Texas. Tom and Lula met at a dance in Comanche County, and married soon thereafter. The pair moved to Eastland County, where they lived the remainder of their days. The couple had six children, two of whom died in infancy.
In 1913, T S Parker opened the T S Parker Grocery & Mercantile in Rising Star, Texas. The store was located on the north side of the road, a short distance east of the city's main intersection of Highway 36 and Highway 183. This enterprise operated successfully for decades. Mr. Parker was a prominent public-minded citizen of the community. His benevolence helped many families make it through the tribulations of World War II. Mr Parker, along with his wife and many other relatives (including direct ancestors), are buried at Rising Star Cemetery, just east of Rising Star.
