Burnie Odell Allen, 77, of Charlotte, NC died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the Levine and Dickson Hospice House.

He was born on April 10, 1931 in Cleveland County to the late Riley and Florence Allen.

He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War for two years and then was in the reserves until being discharged in 1960. He worked for TCT Trucking Company for 23 years and retired from his own business, Allen Trenching Service.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Helen L. Allen; daughter, Marcia Lynn Allen of Aiken, SC; brother, D.C. Allen of Sylva; sisters, Margie Ware of Millers Creek, Phyllis McSwain of Cherryville and Elaine Barrett of Raleigh.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Imogene Dixon.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009 in the chapel of Raymer Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Freeman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Levine and Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, NC 28078, Cole Memorial UMC, 2022 W. Sugar Creek Rd., Charlotte, NC 28262, or the charity of your choice.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at CMC and the Hospice House for the excellent care they gave to him. They would also like to thank his family, friends and neighbors for their prayers and support during this time.

Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville, is serving the family.
