Betty LaVerne Sledge, 76, lifelong Guymon resident, passed away Friday morning, January 23, 2009 at the Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo, Texas.
The daughter of Arthur Hayden and Goldie Ruth (Gooch) Danner, she was born February 9, 1932 in Guymon. Betty was raised in Guymon and attended the Guymon school system.

Betty LaVerne Danner and Thomas Earl Sledge were united in marriage on June 14, 1948 in Clayton, New Mexico. In November of 1952, they opened Sledge's Sinclair Service Station and in July of 1975, Sledge's Big Burger, where Betty continued to work until her retirement in 1997.

Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family was very important to her, and her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Anytime they had a ballgame or activity, you could count on seeing Betty there as well. Betty had a great love for the Lord as well, and was a faithful member of the Guymon Church of Christ. She also enjoyed crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Earl Sledge on March 7, 1995; three sisters: Leonette "Tootsie" Jackson, Sylvia Lorene Price and Zelma Nadine Hackler; and three brothers: Hayden Edgar, Arthur Leon ( Bud ) and Don Dewayne Danner.

She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law: Ron and Christine Sledge of West Haven, Connecticut and Dolan and Pam Sledge of Guymon; five grandchildren: Jennifer and Thomas Sledge, both of West Haven, Connecticut and Katrina, Ashton and Kody Sledge all of Guymon; one great granddaughter, Aubryn Sledge; one sister, Lula Mae Grice of Dalhart, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, January 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Guymon Church of Christ with Jesse Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery.

The Sledge family suggests that memorials be given to the American Lung Association or the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
