Sylvia L. Leader, 90, Altoona, formerly of Newton Hamilton, Lewistown and Mount Union, Pa., died Thursday night at Golden LivingCenter-Hillview.

She was born in Shippensburg, daughter of Isaac N. and Ada L. (Ott) Chilcote. She married James M. Leader July 15, 1943, in Altoona. He died April 25, 2000.

Surviving are a brother, Richard N. Chilcote of Hollidaysburg; and a sister, Barbara Suzanne Slagle (Harley) of Altoona. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Chilcote; and a sister, Carol Porter.

She was a member of First Church of the Brethren, Altoona, and was active at First United Methodist Church, Mount Union, where she taught Sunday school when she lived in that area.

Mrs. Leader was formerly employed as a bookkeeper for the Singer Sewing Co., Lewistown, and had been a clerk at Kress' 5 & 10 Store.

She was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School.

Sylvia was an artist, seamstress and enjoyed crafts.

She was a member of the Mount Union Art Guild.

Friends will be received from 10 to the 11 a.m. funeral service Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, the Rev. Timothy Auld officiating. Interment at Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Child Evangelism Fellowship of South Central Pennsylvania, 1616C E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
