SHAWNEE, Okla. — Stillwater resident Edgar J. Overturf, 89, passed away Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in Stillwater. He was born Feb. 4, 1919 in Oklahoma City to Edgar H. and Bertha Lee (Burns) Overturf. Being born in Oklahoma City, he moved a lot as a child. He attended Springer High School and later received an honorary diploma from the US Military.

On Oct. 16, 1954, he married Nellie Mae Miller in Stillwater. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2006.
He joined the National Guard, Army 45th Division, working his way up to Sergeant. Following his military service, he returned to the Shawnee area, leasing several farms in the South Rock Creek area. He then leased a grocery and gas station south of town. He then moved to Ceres, California for four years before moving back to the Tecumseh/Shawnee area where he lived the rest of his life working at Sears, and later at Tinker Air Force Base with his wife, until his retirement. He had recently moved to Stillwater. He was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh. He was a pilot who loved to fly.

Also preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters; and one brother. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ward Tweedy of Branson, Mo; step-son and daughter-in-law, Dell and Ruth Miller of Rockledge, Fla; grandchildren and their spouses, Jenny and Steve Bayles of Stillwater, Nellie and Les Balogh of Orlando, Fla, Dell Leroy Miller of Rockledge, Fla, Lloyd Miller of Rockledge, Fla, Kevin and Robyn Tweedy of Branson, Mo, Craig and Janet Tweedy of Bolivar, Mo. and Kerrick and Connie Tweedy of Bolivar, Mo.; many great-grandchildren; and one brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Joyce Overturf.
