Roy grew up in Shawnee, OK and at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During his twenty years of service, Roy served as a Chief Petty Officer while doing tours in Vietnam and Korea. He was united in marriage to Joyce Robbins on February 2, 1957 in Las Vegas, NV. The couple raised six children. They moved to Gainesville, MO in the 1960's and have been residents ever since. He owned Roy's Auction Service for many years and was a charter member of the Isabella VFW #5366. Roy was a Christian and attended Brushy Knob General Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Bertha Overturf; two sisters Evelyn Arwood and Willie Ann Jackson; two brothers Edgar and Ray Overturf; and one grandson Roy James Overturf. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home in Gainesville; his children David Huskey, Kenneth Roy Overturf, Michael Ray Overturf, Deborah June Overturf, Mary Ann Moore and Edgar Raymond Overturf; nephew Boyd Overturf; niece Pat Tweety; 12 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Roy will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home chapel, Gainesville, MO with Jimmy Kyle officiating. Burial will follow in the Mammoth Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to service time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Isabella VFW #5366.
