Motion Picture Screenwriter. He won an Academy Award for his penning of the screenplay for the film "The King's Speech" (2010). Born to Jewish parents, his family moved to Long Island, New York, after their home was bombed by the Nazis during World War II in 1940. Seidler was inflicted with a stutter during his childhood, and as a result, he was inspired by Britain's King George VI, who also suffered from a speech impediment. After speech therapy, he was cured of his disability by his mid-teenage years. He began acting in stage productions, and after receiving his degree in English from Cornell University, he penned his first play, "The Adventures of a Penny." During the mid-1960s, he was a regular writer for the Australian TV series "Adventures of the Seaspray" and after relocating to Hollywood, he penned stories for the soap operas "The Days of Our Lives," "Another World" and "General Hospital." His commercial break happened when Francis Ford Coppola hired him to contribute to the story for the film "Tucker: The Man and His Dream" (1988).
