Myrian Barnwell Kirby
AUGUST 22, 1931 – JUNE 25, 2022

Our Mom, Myrian Barnwell Kirby was born August 22, 1931 to Luther Eldon and Jessie Lee Barnwell in Cleburne County, Alabama. After high school she worked for the Southern Bell Phone company. Everyday Mom walked by Warnock's Furniture Company on her way to work where she met our Dad. On December 26, 1953, James and Myrian eloped and started their new life together. That was the beginning of sixty-two years as a loving husband and wife. In quick order we came along...Wanda Lee, James the third, and Linda Sue filled the lives of James and Myrian.

Myrian became a fulltime mom and homemaker. She was always there when we came home from school. She filled her life with us and the many pets that found a loving home with us. She loved animals and flowers. Flowers were a favorite gift of hers. She especially liked the ones that came to be planted in the yard. Mom would ride over with us to Home Depot, pick out a few favorites and then find a comfortable chair to watch and give direction as we planted them. She had a lot of love and it showed in her kids, pets, and flowers. Mom loved her church, First Baptist Downtown, and her Sunday School class and they loved her back. She made wonderful friends there.

Later in her life after the house was free of kids she worked as a surgical nurse assistant. She was so proud when she started that job. As they aged, she devoted her life to her children and her husband who she loved so much. Jim came to live with them to help with the care of Dad through his Alzheimer's and later for Mom with the many forms of cancer she survived. We are so grateful to our brother for his faithful care of our parents in their later years.

James and Myrian raised their children in a Christian home with great values and a love for their country. James and Myrian had five grandchildren, three boys, John, Jim IV and Joe and two granddaughters, Jesse and Synobia. They have five great grandchildren, three boys, Thomas, Jordan and James V and two great granddaughters, Taylor and Aurora Jean. She leaves behind a brother Lehman and a sister Ann. The extended family knew her as Aunt Middy and our visits back to the country in Alabama were wonderful times of love and joy.

Mom loved to laugh and to "visit" with her friends and family. She loved it when we came home. She was a woman of deep faith. She could be found early in the morning in her chair with her Bible reading and praying. Later in her life we made sure she heard the scriptures and prayers every day. Mom loved mysteries and loved to hear them read to her later in her life. She did not have many books when she was young and built a wonderful library of mysteries, health, diet and fitness and Christian authors.

We loved our Mom and Dad. We are so grateful for the values and work ethic they instilled in us. They gave us a sense of humor and feisty temperaments. They supported our dreams and always made room for us and the grandkids when life was unkind. We will miss you Mom so much but know you have found a deep peace and joy in eternity. We love you Mom, enjoy the journey.
