December 19, 1937 - May 6, 2018
Resident of San Jose
Marian passed away peacefully at her home on May 6, 2018 at the age of 80.
Loving wife of John for nearly 58 years. Beloved mom of David and Margaret (Todd Wangsness), and adoring Grammy to Luke and James.
Born in Daly City, CA she graduated from Boulder Creek Elementary, and was valedictorian at San Lorenzo Valley HS. Marian was a math major at Stanford University, where she met John and made many lifelong friends. They graduated together in 1959 settling in San Jose in the early 1960s.
Marian always made her family and her community her priority; she volunteered at her kids' schools and was an advocate for children with special needs. She was a Girl Scout leader and member of the Travel Troop Committee for many years. Marian served over 20 years as a classroom aide at Sartorette School and was active in District 9 elections. A voracious reader, she loved her mystery book club and served as president of the Cambrian Branch Friends of the Library for several terms.
John and Marian were founding members of Transfiguration Catholic Church where she was an active volunteer for over 50 years. She loved to sew and quilt, and truly enjoyed the SCV Quilt Association. She was fond of nature, especially ferns and redwood trees, and was an avid gardener.
We are grateful to her caregiver, Bo, for her compassionate care and understanding.
A Memorial Mass will be held on May 21, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Transfiguration Church, 4325 Jarvis Avenue, San Jose. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Cambrian Branch Friends of the Library or the Alzheimer's Association.
