American Singer. He started singing at an early age and became famous for singing traditional pop standards, big bands, show tunes, and jazz. Tony fought in the final stages of World War II as a U.S. Army infantryman in the European Theater. Not only a successful crooner/entertainer for decades, but Tony was among the young men that liberated the Dachau concentration camp, playing a part in saving the lives of thousands of Jews, including Elie Wiesel, R Lau, and many more. He received the medal of honor in 2017. He amassed many accolades throughout his career, including 20 Grammy Awards, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and two Primetime Emmy Awards. Tony was named an NEA Jazz Master and a Kennedy Center Honoree and is the founder of the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts in Astoria. He sold more than 50 million records worldwide. His career of more than 70 years was remarkable not only for its longevity but also for its consistency. In hundreds of concerts and club dates and more than 150 recordings, he devoted himself to preserving the classic American popular song, as written by Cole Porter, the Gershwins, Duke Ellington, Rodgers and Hammerstein, and others.
