Vernon Askew, 101, of Nederland, died Thursday, March 9, 2023. He was born December 20, 1921, in Shelbyville, to Lola Hagler Askew and Thomas Buford Askew.

Survivors include his sons, Richard Askew and wife, Michelle, of Nederland; Ed Askew of Jasper; and Steven Askew and wife, Kashia, of Lake Charles, Louisiana; daughters, Cheryl Cary of Lake Charles, Louisiana and Donna Cockrell and husband, Tracy of La Porte; grandchildren, Jennifer Balsamo and husband, Jeremy; Heather McNeal and husband, Jason; Haley Cary; Jesse Askew; Brooke Gresham and husband, Josh; Katelyn Migues and husband, Derrek; Kyle Cockrell and wife, Ashley; and Jena Anderson and husband, Matt; great-grandchildren, Aiden; Blake McNeal and wife, Marleigh; Kaelin; Justine; Leland; Addisyn; Allyssa; Micah; Allisyn; Amelia; Madisyn; Cadence; Zoey; Kyler; Brady; Beau; Beckett; Brinley; Ellie; Macie; and Brooklyn; great-great-grandchild, Luke McNeal; and sister, Myrline Bradshaw.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife of sixty-six years, Marcella Askew; and eight siblings.

A gathering of Mr. Askew's family and friends will begin at 12:30 p.m., with his funeral service at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2023, at Broussard's, 505 North 12th Street, Nederland. His interment to follow at Memory Gardens of Jefferson County, Nederland.
