John Garry, sworn, stated : I reside at
North Prentice and have resided in Victoria
since 1852. I have had no income during
past six months; I have no property, and
have no money in the savings bank. My son
gave me £100 about 5 years ago. The doctor
got the most of it, and I have none left. I
have not disposed of any property; I have not
been able to work much this last 16 or 17
years. I have one son and four daughters.
My son is a market gardener, living near Mel-
bourne ; he did not absolutely refuse to assist
me, he is a married man with no family. I
have no other sons. My daughter Jane, I do
not know where she is. The other three
daughters are married ; one, Isabella Hamil-
ton, lives at South Grogong, her husband is a
laborer; they have a family of five or six.
Never told my daughter I was going to apply
for a pension. Another daughter, Margaret
Guest, resides at Trenton, and has 6 or 7 of a
family. I have a daughter, Mrs Pearson, re-
siding at North Prentice; she has a house
there.
The Commissioner stated that the applicant
had ; not satisfied him that the son John was
unable to support him, and the application
would be adjourned to 8th of April, also that
of Janet Garry.
