Professional Baseball Player. He made his major league debut with the New York Yankees on April 22, 1961 as an undrafted player. After only 1 game with the Yankees he was traded to the Los Angeles Angels where he played from 1961 until 1964. During the 1964 season he was once again traded to the Boston Red Sox where he played until 1965. He spent the last 3 years of his playing career with the Atlanta Braves (1966), the Chicago Cubs (1966-1967) and the Houston Astros (1968) a part-time player and pinch hitter. In his 8 years as a player he played in 1027 games he posted a .255 batting average, made 106 home runs and batted in 428 runs. He also played in 2 All-Star games in 1962. After his playing career ended he remained active in the game as an assistant coach, director of player development, a general manager and scout for several minor and major league teams. As general manager, he was the architect of the 1993 Philadelphia Phillies' team which won the National League Pennant. He passed away at the age of 86 at his home.
