Record Producer. Born Anthony Ralph Clarke in Coventry, West Midlands, England, he got his start in the music business by playing the bass guitar in numerous local English skiffle bands from the mid 1950s to the early 1960s. He found work as a session musician for Decca Records and transitioned to producing, working under the watch of A&R man Dick Rowe. He found early success as a songwriter before being tasked with producing The Moody Blues. With his intricate production, The Moody Blues transitioned from R&B-blues music to art pop-progressive rock with the release of their second album, Days of Future Passed (1967). The album received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success, leading to a collaboration that lasted a decade and produced eight classic albums. Other artists Clarke produced include: Rick Wakeman (Yes/Strawbs), Clannad, John Lodge, Justin Hayward and Nicky Hopkins among others. He died from cancer. He was 68.
