Elwin attended East High School, graduating in 1953 with a scholarship to Harvard University. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biology. He then continued his education at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine completing a residency and fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. While Baltimore, his two children, Mindy and Lisa were born after which the family moved to Denver. Upon his return to Denver, he was a founding member of The Denver Clinic, a multi speciality group practice. He practiced medicine through the end of 2001 with the last decade of his career as a teaching consultant to the Family Medicine Residency at St. Anthony's Medical Center. During his lifetime, Dr. Berger was an active member of the Denver Rotary Club. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed reading, playing and listening to jazz and classical music, traveling, gardening, and step-aerobics.
Survivors include his wife, two daughters, two step children, and his grandchildren.
