Hastings, NE resident Virginia A. Moore, 87, passed away Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Kensington in Hastings, NE.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE with Mina Nutter officiating. Interment will follow at the Ong Cemetery in Ong, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the Sutton Education Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Virginia was born in Clay County, NE, in 1934 to Roger and Minnie (Hokom) Overturf. She graduated from Edgar High School in 1952. Taking a job with Trans-World Airlines (TWA) at age 18, Virginia worked in Kansas City, MO, and then in New York City.

She took a flight on a TWA Constellation from New York to California to visit her penpal, James Moore, who was serving in the U.S. Navy. James and Virginia were married in the Methodist Church at Mountain View, CA, on November 3, 1953. A daughter, Ann Carol, was born in 1958, and a son, Patrick James, was born in 1962.

James and Virginia returned to Nebraska in 1954 and started farming in the Edgar area in Clay County. Virginia was involved with most church activities and taught Sunday school and Bible school at the Ong United Methodist Church. A wonderful cook, she was also a 4-H leader for the Jr. Livestock Raisers Club and a member of Kitchen-Klatter Extension Club. James and Virginia were very active in Farm Bureau, and she was involved in various other community groups. Virginia was the Ong correspondent for the Clay County News for several years. After retirement, they moved to Hastings in 2017.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband James, her parents and brother Jimmy.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Monty McCord; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Kimberly Moore; brother and spouse, John and Diane Overturf; grandson and spouse, Walker and Megan Moore; sisters-in-law, Ruth Hawthorne; Janice White; Jacqueline Moore; Pamela Overturf; brothers-in-law, Paul (Karen) Moore; Dennis (Kathy) Moore; Lyle (Vickie) Moore; Wayne Moore; many nieces and nephews.
