Officer of Guard for Lord Dunmore Oct 1774. 21 Nov 1776 Patrick Henry apppointed him Lt. of Militia, VA; 1778 Lt. in MD militia. 1791 & 8 more times MD Legislature. He was a Jeffersonian Republican. Senatorial Elector of Senate of MD. Commissioner of Allegany Co, MD. Brother Jesse was a Federalist; they fought and didn't ever speak again. Buried at Ellerslie, MD, just north of Cumberland.
