MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Danny Earnhardt Sr., the youngest brother of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and a longtime mechanic for the Earnhardt family's racing team, died Friday. He was 66.

Danny Earnhardt was the youngest son of Ralph Earnhardt and Martha Earnhardt. He was the brother of the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. He was raised in Kannapolis NC along with two older sisters and two older brothers. His father, Ralph, another race car driver icon, passed in 1973.

Danny was a long time employee of the JR Motorsports racing team, joining the company during the team's 2005 inception. Earlier in his career, Danny worked as a pipe insulator while racing on the weekends. He worked on his father's dirt track car. After his father's death in 1973, Danny began working on cars driven by his brother Dale and worked as a member of the pit crew. After the death of his brother Dale, Danny transitioned to a member of the pit crew for his nephew Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Danny is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherry, his son Danny Earnhardt Jr and wife Sarah, two grandchildren, and his mother Martha.
-------
Danny Earnhardt Sr, 66, went to be with his Lord and savior on Friday, December 10, 2021 at his home in Mooresville, NC. He was born, November 30, 1955 in Kannapolis, NC, to Martha Coleman Earnhardt and the late Ralph Earnhardt. He was a 1975 graduate of A.L Brown High School in Kannapolis.

Growing up as the youngest son of the dirt track legend, Ralph Earnhardt, Danny worked in his father's shop preparing his race cars. Earnhardt worked as a supervisor at Fieldcrest Cannon during the week and saved racing for the weekends.

Following his Father's death in 1973, Danny went to work with his brother, Dale, racing and was a tire carrier on the pit crew. When Dale Jr's career began, Danny was there as well, carrying tires as a pit crew member for his nephew. After Fieldcrest Cannon closed their doors, Danny started his next full time job in 2004 at Dale Earnhardt Inc. race shop while also still being a tire carrier on the weekends. Danny then decided in 2007 is time to make the move to work at JR Motorsports building race cars. He was a longtime employee and was a vital part of the teams success.

Although known to be a man of few words, Danny's actions made clear his love for his family, friends, racing, the Clemson Tigers, the Dallas Cowboys & his beloved dog, Kasey.

Danny was preceded in death by his brothers, Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Randy Earnhardt.
