George graduated from Conrad High School in 1928, while living with his sister & brother-in-law, Lucille & Fred Coulter, as one of their hired men. George married 23 July 1936 at Eagle Grove, Iowa, to Hazel Maxine "Maxine" Rice (1917-2002), daughter of Benjamin Elva Rice & Alice Maude Stuch; 5 children: Jacqueline Ann, Richard Lee, Carmen Joyce, Sandra Mae, and Karen Alyce Dutton.
