Ethel Mae Elder, 76, of Vandalia died at 9:35 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 1987, in Fayette County Hospital, Vandalia.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hohlt Funeral Home, Vandalia, with Rev. Edward Lucas officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Vandalia. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials: Fayette County Cancer Fund.
Mrs. Elder was born May 1, 1911, in Fayette County, daughter of Mary Elizabeth Miller. She was secretary for the Fayette County Republican Committee and a bailiff for Fayette County Court House. She was a member of First Pentecostal Church, Vandalia. She William Chester Elder on Nov. 22, 1927 in Brownstown. He died May 4, 1971.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Dowd of Mount Zion; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. One daughter, one brother, one sister, and one grandchild preceded her in death.~
