BLYTHEDALE, Mo. - Lottie (Johnston) Snead, 75, Blythedale, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1997, at the Albany, Mo., hospital.

Mrs. Snead, a homemaker, also worked at the Sunflower Munitions Plant in Sunflower, Kan. During World War II, she served in the military police of the Marine Corps.

Born in Harrison County, Mo., on April 4, 1922, she graduated from the Hatfield, Mo., high school.

Mrs. Snead was a member of the Christian Church, auxiliary of the American Legion Post and Pawnee Club, all of Eagleville, Mo. She served as secretary-treasurer for the Harrison County Public Water Supply District No. 1 and on the election committee as a volunteer.

On Feb. 7, 1946, she married Everett Snead. He survives of the home.

Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Eva Johnston; a brother Joseph E. Johnston; and sister, Lola Johnston.

Additional survivors: two sons, Stanley, Tucson, Ariz., and Wallace, Fairfield, Iowa; a daughter, Carol Taxter, Phoenix; a sister, Sylvia Sweeney, Blythedale; a brother, Oran Johnston, Hatfield; and a grandchild.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Christian Church, Blythedale. Inurnment: at a later date in the Payne Cemetery, Hatfield. There will be no visitation.

LOTTIE SNEAD

Lottie Snead, the daughter of Samuel and Eva (Kinder) Johnston was born on April 4, 1922 in Harrison County, Missouri, and passed away December 16, 1997 in Albany, Missouri at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 12 days.

On February 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Everett W. Snead. To this union 3 children were born: Stanley, Wallace, and Carol.

Lottie was a graduate of Hatfield High School, a member of the Christian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Pawnee Club all of Eagleville. She also served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Harrison County Public Water Supply District #1, and served as an Election Committee Volunteer.

Lottie served in the Marines Military Police during World War II. She was a homemaker, a rural country school teacher, and also worked at the Sunflower Munitions Plant in Sunflower, Kansas.

In her spare time she loved to to do crossword puzzles, work with flowers, and go for country drives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Joseph Everett Johnston, and a sister, Lola Johnston. Lottie is survived by her husband, Everett of the home; 2 sons, Stanley and wife, Debbie of Tucson, Arizona; Wallace and wife, Lou of Fairfield, Iowa; 1 daughter, Carol Taxter and husband, James of Phoenix, Arizona; 1 sister, Sylvia Sweeney of Blythedale, MO; 1 brother, Oran Johnston of Hatfield, MO; a grandson, Greg Snead, and several cousins.

Lottie didn't have a middle name. When her father went in to town to give the information for her birth certificate, he couldn't remember the middle name that they planned to give her, so she didn't get one.

After graduation from Hatfield High School in 1942, Lottie taught one year at Liberty School, a country school NW of Eagleville, MO. For the following 2 years, she worked at the Sunflower Munitions Plant near Lawrence, Kansas before being sworn into the Marine Corps on May 15, 1944 in St. Louis, MO. She served as a Military Policewoman in and around Washington,DC, including at Arlington National Cemetery, being honorably discharged in the middle of February, 1946.

Beginning in the mid-1950's she also served as Secretary of the Payne Cemetery board, later the Payne Cemetery Association, Inc., until the early 1970's.
