Ira Stout was one of 13 children of Job Stout and Rhoda Howell. He married Eliza McNutt May 8, 1832 in Franklin County. He was a successful farmer, a justice of the peace, and was both a deacon and trustee in the Big Cedar Baptist Church as were his father Job and brothers Jonathan and Joab Stout. Ira and Eliza had three children, Elizabeth Elmira, John, and Martha Jane.
