Frank Mihevc, 96, of Gurnee, passed away suddenly on August 11th, 2007 at his home. He was born on March 6, 1911.

Frank graduated from Waukegan High School in 1929. He was soon hired as an office boy for the Chicago Transit R.R. After a few years he was hired by the Waukegan Post Office as a mail carrier where he worked for 31 years. He was also an avid golfer and a wonderful musician.

He is survived by his loving wife of 10 wonderful years, Mary (Hodnik) Svete; his children, Kay (Dee) Mihevc of Wilmington, NC and David (Laurie) Mihevc of McHenry, IL; his grandchildren, Rick (Lynn) Mihevc of Evanston, IL, Julie (Brian) McGinn from Fremont, MI, Dr. Elizabeth (Dr. William) Atkinson of McHenry, IL, Chad (Jennifer) Mihevc of McHenry, IL; his great grandchildren, Jackson Mihevc, Emma Claire Mihevc, Zachary McGinn, Sarah June McGinn, David Atkinson, Jamie Atkinson, Carolyn Atkinson, Joseph Mihevc, Mary Beth Mihevc and James Mihevc and his step-children, Donna (Charles) Sydney of Stone Mtn., GA, Connie (David) Kenney of Scottsdale, AZ and Bob (Ticia) Svete of Marietta, GA and sisters, Pauline Mihevc and Elvera Roberts of Waukegan.

Preceding him in death were his first wife, Mary Furlan, his parents and three brothers, Milan, Swetco and Edwin; and many relatives and friends who loved him dearly.

Over his life time he demonstrated strong family values and work ethics and yet found the opportunity to enjoy his sports and music. His sports interest focused on the game of golf since his caddy day, he was fortunate enough to experience the thrill and achievement of making 3 holes in one, which is every golfers dream. He also had a special place in his heart for volunteering annually as the official scorer of the W.H.S. Girls Golf team, coached by Bob Franz. He was also the official scorer for various other tournaments all through the years. Bonnie Brook Golf Course was his second home.

Franks second interest was his music. During the 1950's and 1960's he was in Jim Sanford's Dance Band at the Elk's Club playing saxophone and clarinet. His talents were heard over the span of his life time with different bands ranging from American Standard to Polka music. Most recently he could be heard sharing the stage with Eddy Hodnik as the leader of the Waukegan Polka Beat on the Button Box, Bill Roy on the drums, Ivan Ginter on banjo and guitar and Frank on the sax. Many dancers in our community will sorely miss his delightful music and sweet personality.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 16th from 5-8pm at Salata-Gurnee Funeral Home, Gurnee. Visitation will continue at 9 am on Friday, August 17th, until time of service at 10am at St. Paul the Apostle Church, 6401 Gages Lake Road, Gurnee, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory may be made to Bonnie Brook Golf Course. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
