Gareth Ross Shell
80, a lifelong resident and area farmer of Fremont Township, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2020, at McLaren Port Huron Hospital.
He was born August 18, 1939, in Detroit, the son of the late James and Jean (Wilson) Shell.
His marriage to Helen Mouton was June 27, 1959, in Detroit.
Gary was a 1957 graduate of Wilbert Wright High School, Detroit. He went on to graduate from Lawrence Technical Institute with his associates degree in mechanical engineering in 1960. He worked for 45 years as an engineer and was employed with General Motors for 10 years before his retirement in 2002. He was a former board member for Fremont Township and trustee for over 30 years. Gary was also a member of the National Rifle Association and Blue Water Sportsman Association and he helped start the Port Huron Northern High School Trap Team. Gary loved to trap shoot at state and national events where he won many awards and he attended Cornerstone Evangelical Church, Clyde Township.
Surviving in addition to his wife Helen of 60 years, are a son Jim (Kim) Shell of Fort Gratiot; five grandchildren, Austin (Christen) of Kimball, Alexandra (Calvin) Amey of Port Huron, Mackenzie Shell of Jonesboro, AK, Halle Shell of Fort Gratiot, and Avery Shell of Jonesboro, AK; sister, Patti Shell; brother, Ron (Crystal) Shell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding him in death is a daughter, Sarah Shell (1983).
The family honors the memory of Gareth and invites you to visit and share memories Saturday, March 14, 2020, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cornerstone Evangelical Church, 4025 North Road, Clyde Township 48049. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Pastor Peter Foxwell will officiate.
