A resident of Pomona for nearly half a century and long prominent in Masonic circles here, Herbert W. Barnum, 83, who retired in 1938, after 47 years of railroading, passed away suddenly at 1:15 a.m. Sunday in Pomona Valley Community Hospital. Mr. Barnum was born Nov. 19, 1872, in Bangor, N.Y. He began his railroad career in the East. Coming to California from New York in 1908, he joined the Southern Pacific and that same year came to Pomona as its passenger agent here. He held that position until his retirement 18 years ago. Survivors are a son, Paul T. Barnum of San Gabriel, and a granddaughter, Mrs. Louise Barnum Brooks of La Verne. Entombment will be made in Pomona Mausoleum by the side of his wife, Mrs. Bertha S. Bamum, who passed away on May 20, 1955.
