Boarus the pig was a rescue piggy. He was running loose around a cemetery in Lancaster in the deep snow that winter of February 2010. As he foraged for food and moved through the deep snow, he could be seen making tracks. He was a black piggy and my Daddy and brother would watch him. He was not very popular with some of the visitors who would come by the graveyard who complained that they were afraid of the wild pig.

A plan was made to capture him and take him to the Floyd Homestead to save his life. Otherwise, anyone might must have shot him. He lived for the next eight plus years like a little piggy king! He had his own pig pen - barn style with an attached yard at the Floyd Homestead in Dallas. Being another member of the family of many rescues and beloved critters to find a forever home with my loving parents.

Many great memories of feeding Boarus watermelon, fresh corn on the cob and apples. Boarus was without ears - seems that the coyotes had tried to eat him that winter before he was rescued. The coyotes would get a grip and rip his ear off, but they could not get the big fellow to the ground and finish him off. So there he was earless all of his life. But he was in his barn out of the rain if he wanted to be. #DallasPioneerFamily1846
