She died at the age of 23 years, 2 months and 8 days of carbolic acid poisoning.

YOUNG GIRL’S SUICIDE BAFFLING TO PARENTS

Miriam Pruitt Drinks Carbolic Acid and Dies Before Aid Can Reach Her

No reason can be assigned by parents of Miss Mariam Pruitt, 23 years old, 2517 North Fifteenth and One-half street, for her suicide about 8 o’clock Tuesday night by drinking carbolic acid. According to her father, James Pruitt, she has had nothing to worry about that he knows of and always has seemed in the best of health.

“She has been going with a young man for sometime,” said the father, “but so far as I can learn they have had no quarrel. He is a mighty nice man and I do not think that her death was the result of disappointment in love.”

Miss Pruitt, after eating supper and chatting with members of the family, talking and laughing as usual, retired to her room. About 8 o’clock her parents heard her scream. They rushed into the room, found her unconscious and sent for Dr. Joseph Frisz, but she died before he arrived. On a dresser was found a bottle half filled with carbolic acid which had been purchased at a Twelve Points drug store earlier in the evening, leading the parents to believe that it was premeditated.

The girl was employed at Columbian Enameling and Stamping company’s plant. She worked Tuesday and walked home with several girl friends with whom she chatted and laughed as usual.

Coroner F.H. Jett held an autopsy shortly after the suicide and declared that death was caused by taking carbolic acid with suicide intent.
