Mrs. Stewart was the youngest of sixteen brothers and sisters. She was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church and attended Valley Drive Baptist Church. Mrs. Stewart was the first woman to hold the position as Circuit Court Clerk for Henry County. She worked under the Hon. John H. Matthews and the Hon. Robert P. Crouch before retiring on December 30, 1999.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Morris Stewart, Sr.; son, George Morris Stewart, Jr.; brothers, Roy T. Joyce, Claude Joyce, James Joyce, Jack Joyce, Fred Joyce, and George Joyce; and sisters, Sallie Mae Hutchinson, Lucy Mat Boyd, Edna Tilley, Gertrude Tilley, Marie Harrington, Catherine Belton, and Virginia Joyce.
She is survived by her sister, Doris J. Anthony; brother, Raymond S. Joyce, Sr.; her loving daughter, Joyce Ann Stewart, who lovingly cared for her; granddaughter, Dr. Mallory Lynne Stewart and mother Karen; and granddogs, Heidi Lynne Stewart and George Harley Stewart. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Valley Drive Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Rakes officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville, VA. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery.
