John Henry Wood

John Henry Wood was born November 16, 1845 in Mercer Country, Kentucky and died at Stafford, Kans., March 16, 1926 at the age of 80 years and 4 months.

He was married to Martha Jane Woods in Johnson County, Indiana in the month of May, 1869. To this union eight children were born, six sons and two daughters. Three sons and one daughter preceded the father in death. He is also survived by his wife. Three of four of the children were at the bedside when death come, O. L. Wood of Dodge City, Geo. L. Wood of Trinidad, Colo., Lula P. Meireis of this city. One son, T. J. Wood of Whittier, Calif. was unable to come.

John Wood came with his family by wagon from Tipton county, Indiana and settled in Stafford county more than 37 years. He had undergone the privations incident to pioneer life and knew the hard work and strict economy that was demanded of those who came to this country in the early days. Mr. Wood was a kindly man, honest and unassuming and enjoyed the respect and confidence of those who knew him best. In the year 1896 he made a profession in faith of Christ during a protracted meeting of the Friends church.

Funeral services for Mr. Wood were held Wednesday afternoon, March 17 at the Christian church and were conducted by Rev. Dan Smith, pastor of the church. Burial was made int he Stafford Cemetery
