One of Edmond’s greatest citizens has gone to be with his Creator. John Clinton Stone, age 96, of Edmond, OK, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2017, surrounded by his children. John, or Johnny, as his friends knew him, was born on Feb. 16, 1921 in Edmond to Charles Marshall Stone and Matilda Jane (Ellis) Stone. He graduated from Edmond High School and received a Bachelor of Science from Central State College. After college, he served in the US Navy as a Pharmacist’s Mate during World War II in the South Pacific. Upon returning from service, he married Anneta Marietta Marshall, his wife of 69 years. He operated Stone’s Pharmacy in downtown Edmond before joining Pfizer as a sales rep. In 1960, he partnered with Bill Howell, Sr. to form Howell-Stone Insurance.

John was a true servant, devoting his time to his community and church. He was a life-long member of First Christian Church of Edmond where he was an Elder Emeritus. He was a former President of the Edmond Chamber of Commerce and President of the Edmond Hospital Board that oversaw building the hospital at 2nd and Bryant. John also enjoyed the honor of being inducted into the Edmond Historical Hall of Fame. After retirement, John continued to enjoy his love for golf by working as a Marshall at Oak Tree Golf and Country Club, where he had previously been a charter member.

John never knew a stranger and brought joy and kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marietta; brother, Marshall Stone; & sister, Gladys (Stone) Lawless. He is survived by his daughter, Kay Mades & husband, Mark; son, Clint Stone & wife, Anne; daughter, Marilyn Lipscomb & husband, Dan; granddaughter, Jamie Paladini, husband, Todd, & children, Mia, Alex, & Anna; granddaughter, Lindy Mixon, husband, Eric, & children, Macoy & Liv; granddaughter, Maggie Martin, husband, Kyle, & children, Ellie & Ryan; granddaughter, Emily Shoffner, husband, Chris, & children, Logan, Sarah Mae, & Ty; granddaughter Angie Lipscomb; & grandson, John Stone & wife, Christina.

A viewing will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home. There will be a Memorial Service at First Christian Church in Edmond on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.
