Mildred Frances Roderick Filius, 93, of Fairmont, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 in her home of 75 years after a long illness. She was born June 2, 1923, in Kingmont, WV, the youngest daughter of the late Charles Lewis and Fannie Sylvia Dillon Roderick.

Survivors include a son, Charles A. Filius of Avalon, CA;. a nephew, William C. Powell II, and wife, Jane, of Kodak, TN; ten great nieces and nephews, several great-great nieces and nephews and numerous cousins. She is also survived by her cousin, George McCauley, of Grafton, WV and his wife, Marjorie. He was like a brother to her and she loved both of them dearly.

A graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, class of 1941. She also attended the West Virginia Business College. She was employed with Bell Furniture Company as cashier and bookkeeper, Union Brokerage Finance Company, Union Acceptance Company and Fairmont Building & Investment Company as the Corporation Secretary. All of these companies were owned by the late E. C. Griswold.

She joined the Market Street Methodist Protestant Church at the age of 12. After it closed she transferred to Diamond Street United Methodist Church, which later became Gateway United Methodist Church. She was a member of the church choir for 40 years. Over the years she served as the auditor, Secretary of the Official Church Board, and as a Church Circle Leader. She was very active in the United Methodist Women serving as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President. She was a poll worker from 1980 through 2012, Precinct 102, East Fairmont junior High School cafeteria.

Mildred was a Life Member of Beta Sigma Phi, International Sorority. She was a former member of the Junior Women's Club and Sorores Club of the YWCA. She owned a camp at Big Bear Lake for 30 years, spending many enjoyable summers there. She enjoyed traveling, belonging to three different travel clubs.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jenevie Roderick, a sister, Ruth Marguerete Roderick Powell and a brother-in-law, William C. Powell, Sr.

Friends and family may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street Fairmont on Sunday from 4 pm to 8 pm. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Taylor County.
