DIED
Mr. John Wallace came to Washington in 1892 and died at his home on Cowlitz prairie Wednesday evening October 11th, 1899, at 9 o'clock. Grandpa Wallace was born in Clark county, Ohio, in the year 1822. When a young man he moved from there to Lawrence county Illinois. When the War broke out in '62 and'63 he enlisted and went boldly forth to give his life, if need be, for his country. He served three years as a soldier with the boys in blue. Having joined the M.E. church when quite young, his life has been spent in faithful serving as a soldier of the cross, as was daily shown by the will of our Divine Master, which was most edifying to see. He leaves an aged wife and nine children, all grown, four of whom, together with a mother and stepson devotedly and lovingly cared for him during his last illness. He was buried in the Winlock cemetery from th M.E. church.
The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Ludwick of that place. We tender our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved mourners.
