CLEO PENDLETON Long-time Pahrump resident Cleo Pendleton passed peacefully away in his home, Friday, Feb. 12, 2016.

Cleo was born Oct. 23, 1940, in Depew, Okla., and grew up in Herlong, Calif.

He had made his home in Pahrump for 40 years, coming from Las Vegas.

Cleo worked security at the Nevada Test Site from June 1963 to December 2001.

He was the commander of Nye County Search and Rescue and a member of the Nye County Sheriff's Office competitive pistol team, both of which he enjoyed tremendously.

Cleo also personified the independent western lifestyle of hunting, fishing and working with horses.

In his retirement years, he also became an expert woodworker and created intricate boxes that family and friends treasure.

Cleo is survived by his wife, of 35 years, Jan; and children, Michael, Yvonne and Kirsten.

He was preceded in death by his parents,

Arthur Oris Pendleton

and Ocie Agnes May Hutson;

and siblings,

Thurman,

Mary,

Cricket,

Meecy,

Cletus

and Louise.

He is also survived by his brothers, Arthur and John; and sisters, Edith and Almeda.

Cleo is also survived by six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the Pahrump Family Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in his name to the Scotty's Castle Restoration Fund, Death Valley Natural History Association, Box 188, Death Valley, CA 92328, or the American Cancer Society .
