Ernest "Dutch" van Ravensway was born March 29, 1927 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He passed away on October 6, 2016 in Mesquite, Texas at the age of 89 after a long battle with lung cancer.

Ernest was a World War II Army veteran who served as a military policeman in Germany and France. He retired as a plumbing inspector with the City of Dallas. Ernest attended the Dallas County Cowboy Church. Ernest had hobbies that included dancing, big band, country music, fishing, and watching sports.

After retiring he also enjoyed arts and craft activities, and was passionate about politics. He baked amazing cakes and pies. For years Ernest volunteered as a driver for patients, taking them to Parkland hospital and helping to pick up medications. He received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1999.

Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, Gerrit and Alida; wife, Ann; and daughter, Betty; sons-in-law, Sonny Simpson and Jerry Crispin; brothers, Gerrit, Robert, Frank, George, John, Richard, and Arie; and sisters, Alida and Marie.

Ernest is survived by his daughters, Sandy Simpson, Cathy and Al Lightfoot, and Pat Crispin; son, Ernie Jay and Anita van Ravensway; and his long time companion Leola Thomas. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 17 great great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Grove Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on October 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., with Visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Dallas County Cowboy Church, 4627 Pioneer Rd., Balch Springs, TX, 75180.
