Jose was the daughter of The Reverend John Eugene McManaway and Caroline "Carrie" U. Freeman McManaway. She was a homemaker who partnered with her husband as they ministered to several churches in the Southeast. Most notable was their service to the historic Grace Baptist Church in Richmond where they served from 1945-1965.
At the time of Jose's death she had suffered from health problems that included heart disease and diabetes. She died 3 days after suffering a severe heart attack.
She was buried at the Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Richmond Virginia.
