Son of Martin Barney and Polly Harmon Barney. Husband of Elizabeth Christianna Yendes Barney. Father of Malvina Barney, Mary E. Barney Cline, Jane Barney, Seymour Barney and Martin Barney.

Captain Seymour Barney.

Captain Seymour Barney was born in the town of Elllsburg, Jefferson county, March 30, 1806 and passed away in Scriba, Maroh 8, living within 22 days of 91 years. He lived under all the presidents except George Washington and John Adams. In early life Captain Barney followed farming, but afterwards took up the building and the sailing of vessels on the lakes. He superintended the rebuilding of two vessels the 'Rainbow' and the "Western" and the building of two new ones, namely, the "Colonel Powers" and the "D.J. Schuyler". He also superintended the building of the propeller "Moira" at Belleville, Oat. The last craft he built was the "Virginia" which he built for himself, and which was lost on Lake Erie. About twenty years ago he moved to the town of Scriba. and made his home with his daughter, Mrs. J.B. Stone.

Capt. Barney was converted to God at Point Peninsula more than fifty years ago aad was a consistent Christian. His funeral was March 11, and burial was at Granby Center.
