MRS. T. S. BLACKWELL DIES TUESDAY NIGHT
Well Known Woman Had Not Regained Consciousness Since Accident
Mrs. Florence Doty Blackwell, wife of Thomas S. Blackwell, and one of the best known women on Johnson county, died Tuesday evening at 8:35 at the Province hospital as the result of injuries received in an accident at the corner of North Main and Jefferson streets in Franklin at 4:30 Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Blackwell had never regained consciousness since the accident. Her death came peacefully as she slept.
….Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery at Franklin.
Mrs. Blackwell was born November 20, 1871, in Union township and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel G. Doty, members of pioneer families of that section of Johnson county. She attended the Union township schools and in early life united with the Providence Christian church of which she had been a faithful and devoted member during her entire life. On May 22, 1890, she was united in marriage to Thomas S. Blackwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Blackwell, members of another pioneer family of Union township.
Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Blackwell moved to a farm two miles west of Providence where they lived for eight years. In 1898 they moved to the farm of Mr. Blackwell's parents near Providence where they had since resided. Two sons were born to them, Hazael Blackwell, who has lived with his parents and who has been associated with his father in farming, and Kenneth Blackwell, who lives on a farm in White River township.
In addition to the husband two sons, Mrs. Blackwell is survived by a grandson, Richard Blackwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Blackwell; her aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel G. Doty, who live two miles south of Franklin, and a sister, Mrs. O. L. Deer, who lives on State Road south of Franklin. She also leaves a host of friends throughout the county.
Sister Was Killed ----
The death of Mrs. Blackwell following an accident is a particular tragedy to members of her family and friends because of the fact that her younger sister, Mrs. Golda Doty White, lost her life a few years ago when an auto which she was driving was struck by an Interstate car at the Amity crossing. The tragedy surrounding the death of their youngest child was a blow from which Mr. and Mrs. Doty, the aged parents, have never recovered and the death, now, of their oldest daughter, has been an added blow to them in their declining years.
Mrs. Blackwell was injured as she started to cross the street intersection between the Citizens and Franklin National banks Saturday afternoon…. Mrs. Blackwell was either struck by the car or fell as she made an effort to get out of the path of the auto. In her fall her head struck the pavement of the street and a large gash was cut in her scalp. She was unconscious when picked up by the driver of the car and by Mr. Blackwell who was standing just a few feet away when the accident happened….
Everything known to medical science had been done for Mrs. Blackwell. No fracture of the outside wall of the skull could be found on Monday. Dr. Ralph Lochry, an x-ray specialist of Indianapolis, came to Franklin to photograph the injury to determine if possible if there were an inside fracture. The pictures taken by him did not reveal any fracture.
Tuesday, another specialist came to examine Mrs. Blackwell. It was his opinion that Mrs. Blackwell's fall caused a hemorrhage inside the brain cavity and he stated that there was no possible hope for her recovery. The Drs. Province and Porteus who had attended Mrs. Blackwell ever since her injury had stated from the first examination that it was very doubtful if she should recover.

The Odd Fellows conducted the services with an impressive ceremony before the dear body was laid to its long and sweet rest with its God.
Dearest brother, you are gone but not forgotten. Yes, you have crossed to the other shore with dear father and mother. They are waiting to clasp you in their arms forever more, heart to heart and face to face, to rest till the final day. Dear brother, it tears my crushed and bleeding heart to write these few lines, but, brother, he's at sweet rest and God will take care of me.
Your sister, ADELINE CRISTER.
