"Having operated the cafe at the Greyhound Bus Station in Santa Rosa, California, Mayo and Johnie Mae (Mode) Pickard purchased the former Reed and Bell's Root Beer Refreshery (a franchise of A&W Root Beer) in Cloverdale, California in the 1940s. The Pickards moved to Cloverdale, changed the name of the root beer stand to Pick's, and started selling hamburgers made with the same secret relish recipe that had made them so successful in Santa Rosa.
Under new ownership, Pick's Drive-In in Cloverdale is still in operation."
