Opal Irene McConaughey, the daughter of Warren and Nettie (Buchfinck) Alexander, was born at St. Paul, Nebraska on October 8, 1924, and died at Aurora, Nebraska on January 15, 1995 at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 7 days.

Her family moved to Grand Island when she was a child, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She then worked at a bakery for several years.

On April 10, 1948, she was united in marriage to Eugene McConaughey at Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island for a short time, moved to Pierre, South Dakota for 2 years, lived in the Lincoln area for 2 years, then moving to a farm southwest of Aurora where she lived for 42 years. The last few months have been spent in nursing homes in Aurora, due to failing health.

Opal was a member of Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora, where teaching Bible School had been on of her activities. She had also been a teacher of Joy Clubs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Gladys Krettinger, and 3 brothers, Warren, Clayton, and Lawrence Alexander.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Eugene, 1 daughter, Maureen Dieckmann of Aurora, one son David McConaughy of Sioux City, Iowa, 3 sisters, Claudia Geist of North Platte, Amy Muth of Grand Island, and Mae Peterson of Lincoln, and 2 grandsons, Joshua and Jason Dieckmann of Aurora
