Dr. James G. Barton, 78, of Laguna Park, passed away on August 4, 2006. Interment will be in Peoria Cemetery.

James was born in Marlin, Texas, to the late Charles Esley and Pauline (Burkett) Barton. He grew up in McClanahan, Texas, until he was ten and then the family moved to Yoakum. He graduated from Yoakum High School. After graduation, he went to Texas A&M for two years, served in the U.S. Army for two years and received his B.S. Degree from Sam Houston State Teachers College. He trained in laboratory technology in Houston.

On February 3, 1950, he married Mary Jane Williamson. He then worked two years in Texas City as a lab tech before attending U.T. Medical School in Galveston. Dr. Barton did his internship in family practice in Austin's Breckenridge Hospital in 1956. He practiced one year in Fort Worth and six months in Burnet before moving to Whitney in November of 1958, where he started his family practice. He remained in Whitney until January 1988 and then went to the V.A. Hospital in Waco for five years, retiring in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce G. Barton on Dec. 15, 1985; and a brother, Tom Barton.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane, of Laguna Park; daughters, Terri Barton and husband, Ted Arnold, of Euless, and Paula Barton and fiancé, Joe Sikes, of Laguna Park; grandson, Brad Barton; granddaughters, Kyndal and Jordan Lilley; other relatives and many friends.
