A passenger list shows her arriving in America in New York, New York, on the ship California on 5 August 1887, coming from Hamburg, Germany, with her family: husband Carl, daughter Marie, sons Richard and Othmar, and a 2 year old shown as Franz on the passenger list. (Year: 1887; Arrival: New York, New York; Microfilm Serial: M237, 1820-1897; Microfilm Roll: Roll 510; Line: 3; List Number: 982)

A passenger list made at the departure point in Hamburg, Germany, correctly identifies the youngest child as Anna. (Hamburg State Archive ; Hamburg , Germany ; New York Passenger Lists ; Microfilm No.: K_1736) It further notes that the previous place of residence for the family was Barnsdorf, Moravia. At the time of Marie's birth and departure this would have been in a crown land of the Austrian Empire but is now part of the Czech Republic. The modern Czech name of Barnsdorf is reported to be Bernatice, near the modern-day town of Novy Jicin (German Neutitschein) in the Moravian-Silesian region of the eastern Czech Republic.

No death certificate or other indications of place or cause of death were found online.

The grave markers for Marie, her husband Carl, her daughter Marie, and son Othmar are all very similar in design. This Marie's marker is inscribed Mother, the other Marie Bayer, Daughter.

Her maiden name is reported variously as Bruner, Grunner, and Greener (Gruener).
