June 5 - An appalling disaster occurred at 4:20 p.m. yesterday at the Corning Distillery on the river bank at the foot of Western Avenue. Ten people were killed and seven more were injured in the explosion and fire.

The great warehouse collapsed amidst seething flames; some of the bodies of the dead were cremated past all recognition or recovery.

The dead are Ernest Braun, Martin H. Crowl Jr., William Finley Jr., John Hobecker, Elmer Hogan, Frank Knoll, Sam Parsons, Louis Sax, Jack Unsbee and Joseph Zimmerman. The injured are Louis Behrends, Abe R. Feinberg, John Leppin, John H. Marshall, Frank Phelan, Adam Werner and Ed Werner.

In addition, 3,000 cattle either burned to death or smothered in smoke.
