He was born on 23 November 1773 in Alkersum and she was born on 2 August 1769 in Goting. They went into holy matrimony on 25 April 1805. After he spent 35 years on sea and then for an additional 26 years enjoyed his retirement he passed away on 14 July 1847. His wife had gone 10 months before him on 27 September 1846. Their matrimony was blessed with 2 children, a daughter Kreske, who was called back home by the Lord soon after birth and a son, Arfst Jürgen Arfsten, who was blessed to care for his parents until their demise. Furthermore here liest the daughter-in-law Elzie, nee Gerits, next to four grandchildren, who had gone home in infancy. She was born on 22 December 1808 in Wrisum. She married Arfst Jürgen Arfsten on 4 December 1829 and after six happy married years, blessed with 5 children, she calmly and God loving slept away on 7 April 1836, her passing was mourned by her husband, 4 little children and her parents-in-law.
