William was born in Liverpool, England on May 7, 1887. He enlisted in the Army on January 13, 1916 and served with the 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles during World War I in Canada, France and England. He was wounded by gun shot and has numerous shrapnel wounds. He served at Vimy and was awarded the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was discharged on April 23, 1919. After the war he returned to the trade of stone cutter. He was a member of Woodbine Heights Legion Branch 22 for 37 years. William passed away on November 28, 1963.
