Presbyterian minister and farmer Thomas Gallaher married Mary Sarah Greene in Washington County, TN, on the 8th or 9th of October of 1787.

Thomas and Mary Gallaher lived for many years in Tennessee, then moved, in the last decade of their lives, to near Springfield, IL, in Sangamon County, in 1833. They owned an 80 acre farm in the New Berlin / Island Grove area. Mary died in 1842 in Sangamon County, IL, and her husband Thomas passed away in March 1843, also in Sangamon County, where his will was probated that fall.

One of their daughters, Mary Miller Gallaher Lansden, died a few months after her father, in September 1843. The fallen headstone of this daughter was just located at the very run-down Pisgah Cemetery, in Morgan County, IL, on the grounds of a now-defunct church where her brother, William Green Gallaher, was the pastor. Three of William's children were later buried there - Thomas, his grandfather's namesake (1838-1852), James, who died in the Civil War (1843-1862), and an infant son, un-named, who lived only three days, year unknown. Thomas Gallaher and Mary Sarah Greene Gallaher are believed to be buried in this cemetery as well.
